THE POWER OF A SCHOOL UNIFORM

At ODA, we are continually moved by the extraordinary heart of our community. Today, we want to spotlight Wendy—a long-time ODA supporter whose compassion bridges continents one stitch at a time.
Wendy first connected with ODA during a visit in 2015. Inspired to support our village classes, she began hand-knitting colourful bears and selling them to friends to raise funds. But her creative mission didn't stop there.

Beyond knitting to support funding educational programs, Wendy began crafting special "Khmer Bears" to send directly to children recovering in the Surgical Wing in Phnom Penh. To date, she has lovingly knitted and delivered over 3,000 bears! She makes big special ones to raise the money to fund the high postage and her friends also help with materials and postage.

Every act of kindness creates a lasting ripple of hope. We are endlessly grateful to Wendy and to everyone in our ODA family supporters who contribute in their own unique way to make the world gentler with brighter future prospects for these children.
Changing Futures in Cambodia,
One Gifted Uniform at a Time

While most of our supporters already know about ODA’s Yearly Fund Raising for government school uniforms - Please note the deletion of sneakers this year with the goal of allowing more kids to receive the mandatory uniforms so just $18USD gifts 2 uniforms, why not try to give two kids a chance this year?

How many kids do you think we can fund uniforms for this year?
Newer supporters may not realise why a uniform is so critical. to understand the desperate need: For many children in rural Cambodia, the doorway to education hinges on a single, essential requirement: a school uniform.
In government schools, uniforms are mandatory. The reality is simple and stark:
NO UNIFORM = NO SCHOOL
For just 18 USD, you can provide a village child with two complete uniforms—unlocking an entire year of classroom learning, friendships, and future opportunity.
While we previously provided sneakers alongside uniforms, our local village teachers recently encouraged an important shift. Living and working directly in these communities, our teachers urged us to focus solely on uniforms so every dollar donated can increase the numbers of kids we can reach this year.

Our annual uniform distribution on 29th November is an enormous milestone, in past years outfitting more than 700 excited students every year.
In our very first year, Leng and I sorted, measured, and packed every single uniform ourselves—a monumental task! Today, we are blessed to partner with a wonderful local market vendor and her family, who manage the ordering and packaging while keeping costs as low as possible. She even joins us on distribution day with spare sizes to make sure every child walks away with uniforms that fit.

The impact speaks for itself. Local Village and Commune Chiefs regularly report to Leng that government school attendance is climbing, and parents consistently tell us that ODA’s uniform initiative is the reason their children can start and continue school.

To ensure our market partner can prepare every order before distribution day, we aim to finalize numbers two weeks in advance of distribution. If you would like to open the door to education for a child this year, please consider gifting a uniform or two today.
